TRENDTALK: RAW HEM DENIM

I am not afraid to admit that I have fallen hard and fast for the new wave of denim that has taken over! You guys know that I'm smitten with the reworked denim that more brands have now (thankfully) started doing. I like to describe as vintage shopping with a helping hand because you have a lot less to rubbish to comb through and if you're lucky you'll feel like you've found a rare gem. You do have to fork out a few more dollars but the denim and customisation is totally worth it.

Just when I was just about losing hope, having picked about three pairs of revival denim skirts and three pairs of jeans, it was a truly exciting moment when I managed to find this pair on my America trip at Urban Outfitters and I have been non-stop wearing them! It has been such an easy piece to pair with - but that is truly the magic of denim isn't it?

HOW TO: THE LONG COAT

These images have not been retouched.

While this autumn is taking a slow transition to winter (I can't say I mind), it eased in the dependence of winter wear. I couldn't resist taking this gorgeous long (matrix-like) coat for a spin, that weighty feeling of a warm blanket while instantly bringing the whole look together.

It's all about the navy and grey coats this season, so if you're in the market for a new coat roll with something different other than black. Although, the world is your oyster in terms of shapes, sizes and lengths.

I managed to snatch this chic crop in the sales and it easily found a home in my wardrobe. Neutrals are simple to integrate into one's closet but investing in a bit more of a luxe piece can make all the difference and spice up the basics you already have and wear consistently.

Playing with textures and keeping a restricted colour palette is my (pretty much) fool proof formula to an effortlessly put together outfit. Adding hardware accents is a simple and effective way to keep it interesting without being OTT.

For anyone who wants the perfect weekend wear to run errands, hang out with friends or just to avoid those looking-your-worst awkward encounters, this one is for you.

Thank god for come back of the hella comfy mom jeans and Urban Outfitters for doing the drapey tops right because they're all the ingredients for a not so slob-like weekend outfit that's easily thrown together and converted from day to night.

Don't be afraid of showing off the goods if you've got them - I'm talking about the latest lacey number you just picked up. Chuck on your everyday bling and you've got yourself the easy peesy (pretty much pajamas) outfit ready for your weekend.

SEVENTIES

I finally made the chop! It was probably about time to cut that mane off, to be fair it was getting out of hand and quite unhealthy. I've been wanting to cut it for quite a while now and so far I have been loving it!

The 70's trend has been on fire this season but I have to say I didn't quite feel heat until coming across this shirt. The colour is a lot more subtle but those bell sleeves are definitely something. Paired it with some 90's mom jeans and my favourite black wedges you've got an outfit that isn't too 70's overbearing.

THE GREY SWEATER

Pink Lou Lou signet ring

MAC 'Twig' lipstick

Since the Aussie weather is quite temperamental, it's always a good idea to have those trans seasonal and winter pieces quick at hand.

This grey sweater has probably been my most worn winter piece this year. The shape and silhouette I fell in love with and the grey coordinates with anything and everything. White jeans are the perfect item for those not-so-hot summer days - which of course go perfectly with the white sneaker treads.

Also say a warm hello to my new everyday bag! I found that I didn't have anything for everyday, just a lot of tote bags and those tiny ones for going out occassions, so it was time to invest in my very own (beautiful may I say) go-to bag.

6 TIPS TO MAKE YOUR OUTFIT LOOK MORE EXPENSIVE

I don't know about you but it would be the dream to not always have to seriously consider the price of every piece that I fall in love with. So I'm here to provide you with my top 6 tested and tried tips to making your outfit look more expensive for a girl on a budget.

1. Opt for a High-Low Mix
This is my number one tip and one that I probably put into practice the most. Firstly consider what is worth investing you in money in. I always recommend denim and jackets are pieces which will remain staples in your wardrobe. Fast fashion or trend pieces are where you can do the saving. It is also a great way to make your wardrobe more versatile, by not restricting certain items for certain occasions and also allows you to be more creative.  Pair your jeans with heels and your dresses with sneakers.

2. Textures
Texture can really be the key when shopping on a budget. Affordable pieces can look expensive simply because of its texture.  Leather, faux suede or faux fur are some ways in which you can incorporate textures into your look.

3. Hair & Make up
You can totally elevate your look just by considering your hair and make up. Similar concept to high-low mixing - so if you've got a super casual outfit curl your hair or a bright lip to balance the overall look. I have become increasingly more taken with beauty products and are a no-brainer way to instantly spruce up your look.

4. Layers & Shapes
Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and layer and shape with different proportions. So instead of tucking that shirt in, why not leave it out, or layer cropped jumper over a soft shirt. There are so many trends at the moment which really play up different shapes, so if you're a skinny jeans gal, try flares or culottes.

5. Restrict your Colour Palette
Choosing a few colours for your overall look can really bring it all together and this way you can experiment with textures and proportions as well. Dressing in tonal colours is a sure fire way for that more luxurious look.

6. Metallic Detailing
Metallic detailing in your accessories can add an instant expense to your look. Dainty chains, ring stacks or hardware detailing on your bag can make you look all the fancier. Invest in pieces you can wear all the time with all your outfits, like a watch, a fine necklace or some specs.

DENIM DELIGHT

H&M top
Lee jeans
Vintage Planet Hollywood jacket
Tony Bianco boots
Sportsgirl sunglasses

This is completely and utterly weather inappropriate but who doesn't love a little denim overload, am I right? I have really mixed feelings about the 90's comeback this year as I felt as though I had just spend the last 10 years trying to improve upon my childhood fashions - hence I've been reluctant to replicate the trends exactly. So to rework it I chucked on my purely 90's vintage denim jacket over something I would typically wear now - voilà !

DAYDREAMIN'

General Pants top
Sass & Bide jeans
Woolworths heels
Fossil watch

I do not see myself ever getting over these jeans, they were the most spontaneous buy and they offer the utmost comfort which many items tend to lack. With skinny spray on jeans on their way out I think they will prove a great investment...

Sorry that I've been so M.I.A.! With the first year of uni done & dusted I can safely say I will be posting much much more!
